Microsoft is deploying a range of artificial intelligence tools designed to send emails, handle records, and execute other actions on behalf of business employees, boosting an AI push that heightens competition with rivals such as Salesforce. The Redmond, Washington-based software provider announced on Monday that it would deploy 10 “autonomous agents’ to accomplish tasks on behalf of the workforce in sales, accounting, and customer service.
At the beginning of December and continuing through early 2025, the agents will be accessible for public preview. The company declared that the Copilot Studio allows companies to develop their own agents and will soon get the ability to have those agents act on their own initiative. The preview version will be deployed next month.

Thanks to its partnership with ChatGPT creator OpenAI, Microsoft is leading the tech industry’s push to integrate AI capabilities that generate text, and images, and exhibit humanlike reasoning. Since early 2023, Microsoft has concentrated on AI features that respond to user prompts, with a notable example being its Copilot tool, now incorporated into Word, Outlook, and other products.
