Opera brings built-in translation and animated cursors to Opera GX in latest update

Opera, the Norway-based innovator in browser technology, is enhancing the way users experience the web with the launch of Opera Translate, a secure, built-in translation tool now available in its flagship desktop browsers, Opera One and Opera GX. Alongside this milestone feature, the latest update introduces robust multitasking enhancements and a new layer of browser personalization with customizable animated cursors in Opera GX.

At the heart of this update is Opera Translate, a native browser feature developed to eliminate language barriers and make global content more accessible. One of the most requested capabilities by Opera One and Opera GX users, the tool detects when a webpage is in a foreign language and offers immediate, seamless translation based on the user’s default browser language.

With support for over 40 languages, Opera Translate empowers users to read international news, browse global websites, or navigate foreign pages while traveling—without switching platforms or relying on third-party services. Users can opt for one-time translations or set preferences for automatic translation of specific languages.

The translation engine behind Opera Translate is powered by Lingvanex, leveraging advanced AI technologies to deliver fluid and accurate language processing. Uniquely, all translated content is processed securely on Opera’s European-based servers, ensuring user privacy is upheld under stringent data protection standards. No information is shared with external services, reinforcing Opera’s long-standing commitment to user security.

“The internet connects the world, but language can still be a barrier to exploring its full potential. With the introduction of Opera Translate, we’re giving our users access to content and ideas from across the globe without compromising their privacy,” said Tomasz Stawarz, Director of Product at Opera.
