PhotoShelter Unveils Lumen Portal UI to Modernize How Organizations Share Visual Content

PhotoShelter, the leading digital asset management (DAM) platform, announced general availability of its new Lumen portal user interface (UI). This move represents the final piece in a broader modernization of the PhotoShelter for Brands experience. Updates now span the asset library, collaborative workspaces, and public-facing portals, delivering a more intuitive, visually rich experience for organizations to present, manage, and distribute visual content at scale.

With the Lumen experience, user expectations continue to evolve around usability and design, introducing a modern interface to Digital Asset Management. The key outcome is that teams surface the right assets faster while presenting a more polished brand experience to external audiences. For organizations relying on public portals to share visual content with partners, media, and stakeholders, the new UI reduces friction and aligns with how users discover and navigate content today.

The public-facing DAM portals in the industry have commonly been less up-to-date with current design trends. In many cases, the use of overly complex layouts, lack of navigation, or variations in workflows might negatively affect a brand with a less-than-favorable first impression. PhotoShelter’s new Lumen portal helps alleviate many of these issues by providing a much simpler system for content searching with efficient access for guests.

The updated Lumen portal introduces several enhancements aimed at improving both usability and performance:

  • A modern, intuitive design: The portal experience mirrors the refreshed Lumen library, creating consistency between internal DAM users and external audiences.
  • Improved content discovery: Enhanced viewing options, expanded metadata visibility, advanced sorting tools, and refined filtering—including metadata-based filtering for AI Visual Search—make assets easier to find.
  • Stronger accessibility and mobile support: A refreshed UI ensures smoother browsing and searching across devices, reducing obstacles for users on the go.
  • A scalable foundation for future innovation: Backend improvements allow PhotoShelter to release new features more quickly, accelerating product innovation.
  • Guided customer transition: Training resources, updated documentation, and in-product guidance supported customers during rollout and enabled ongoing feedback.

“For many organizations, the public-facing DAM portal is where their brand meets the world. And our customers told us they needed a simpler, more intuitive, modern way to showcase their visual assets,” said Andrew Fingerman, CEO of PhotoShelter. “With Lumen, we’ve delivered a cleaner, easier, and more flexible portal, helping creative teams discover and take action on visual content at the speed that today’s market demands. And, this leap forward also gives the PhotoShelter team the foundation to innovate faster than ever.”

With this release, PhotoShelter has now unified its updated Lumen UI across all major areas of the platform, creating a cohesive and consistent user experience. The company plans to continue extending the Lumen interface with new features that will be available exclusively within the new UI framework.

During the open beta, PhotoShelter focused on customer feedback and usability insights. This helped finalize the product for general availability. Existing customers can still switch between the Classic and Lumen portal interfaces. This allows teams to adapt to the new experience as needed.
