OpenX Technologies, Inc., one of the world’s leading omnichannel supply-side platforms, announced the promotion of Joel Meyer to Senior Vice President of Engineering. In this role, Meyer will lead OpenX’s engineering function as programmatic advertising continues to innovate new forms of addressability and prepare for the eventual deprecation of the third-party cookie.
Meyer is an OpenX veteran who joined the company in 2009 as a senior software engineer. In that time, he has contributed significantly to OpenX’s firsts and deep history of delivering innovative solutions. During his 15-year tenure, Meyer has been foundational in developing the technology that led to OpenX’s header bidding patents, led the successful migration of the entire OpenX platform to the cloud, and has established OpenX as a leader for the cookieless future by being one of the industry’s foremost experts on Google’s Privacy Sandbox initiative.
Reporting to John Gentry, CEO, Meyer will lead OpenX’s global team of engineers, providing strategic direction to innovate and improve product solutions. Coinciding with his appointment, Meyer will join the Prebid Board.

“It’s long been an ambition of mine to be in the position to build a successful and impactful engineering organization. With this role, I have the honor of accomplishing that goal while building on a great foundation,” says Meyer. “Our technology is paramount to the success of our product, so ensuring that our tech and the team that creates it are successful is essential to growth.”
“We’re thrilled to have Joel as a Prebid board member and to leverage his expertise to help solve the real-world problems facing publishers and buyers as we work to build the future of programmatic,” says Garrett McGrath, Chairman, Prebid. “OpenX has been a valued member of Prebid, and we look forward to continued contributions with Joel’s expanded role.”
Meyer began his career with IBM, where he worked on enterprise software before joining the social networking start-up Xanga, which is where he found his passion for the tech that underpins advertising. Prior to joining OpenX, Meyer worked on Google’s Adwords business.
“Joel’s contributions to OpenX have been tremendously valuable, and I look forward to his continued success, not only within the engineering function but also as a key member of our executive team,” says Gentry. “Joel’s extensive engineering background, his strong leadership in building and scaling effective teams, and his deep understanding of the programmatic space well positions OpenX for the future of programmatic.”
