Snapchat has launched Topic Chats. This new feature connects users in big, public conversations. These chats focus on trending themes, live events, and shared interests. This marks a big change from Snapchat’s usual private messaging style. Initially available in the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand, Topic Chats will show up in various places. Users can find them in Chat shortcuts, search, the Stories page, and Spotlight. By tapping “Join the Chat,” users can quickly jump in. In these chats, users can share text, emojis, Bitmoji stickers, and Snaps. They can access related Spotlight content. This adds visual context and real-time moments to each topic.

To keep the chats safe, Snapchat will use human review and LLM-powered moderation. This will help monitor activity and filter out harmful behavior. Display names appear in public chats, but full usernames remain hidden from unknown users for safety. With Topic Chats, Snapchat seeks to move beyond one-on-one communication. The goal is to build a more open community. It should focus on interests and encourage spontaneous interactions. This will lead to deeper engagement across the platform.
