Consumer intelligence provider NIQ has expanded its flagship NIQ Product Insights (NPI) platform across seven new Western European markets. The deployment extends NPI into Austria, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland, building on its established operations in France, Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
The strategic expansion enhances NIQ’s broader Product Intelligence footprint, equipping enterprise brands and retailers with granular data linking specific product attributes such as ingredient transparency, health claims, certifications, and functional benefits directly to point-of-sale market performance.
Connecting Product Attributes to Real-World Sales Data
As modern consumers and autonomous, AI-driven shopping platforms evaluate goods based on nuanced health, sustainability, and formulation preferences, traditional retail measurement tools no longer offer sufficient visibility.
NPI addresses this data gap by integrating granular product attributes with NIQ’s core market telemetry. The combined intelligence allows commercial teams to isolate which specific features guide consumer selection, optimize pricing strategies, and streamline assortment planning in an era increasingly governed by AI-mediated discovery.

Key market trends driving the demand for attribute-level intelligence include:
Willingness to Pay Premiums: NIQ consumer research indicates that 41% of Western European shoppers are willing to pay a premium for products featuring elevated ingredients or advanced formulations.
Demand for Transparency: Approximately 39% of consumers in the region expressed a readiness to pay higher prices for explicit ingredient and supply chain transparency.
Outperformance of Targeted Benefits: Products making specific functional claims are significantly outstripping broad category growth. In Germany, shampoo offerings highlighting a “Gentle Formula” grew by 48%, compared to less than 1% growth across the overall shampoo segment.
Substantial Price Premiums: High-growth attributes command significant market pricing power. Within the UK skin cleansing category, products featuring hyaluronic acid claims saw sales jump 61%, averaging £15.87 per kilogram—more than three times the overall category average of £5.04 per kilogram.
Executive Perspectives on AI-Mediated Commerce
“As shoppers, and increasingly AI-powered shopping tools, evaluate products against more specific needs and preferences, Product Intelligence is becoming essential commerce infrastructure,,” said Emilie Darolles, President, Western Europe. “NIQ Product Insights helps our clients connect trusted product attributes with market performance so they can innovate faster, optimize their product strategies, and make more confident commercial decisions. It is an important part of our broader Product Intelligence strategy as we continue investing in the future of AI-driven commerce.”
Building the Data Infrastructure for Modern Retail
The European launch follows earlier successful rollouts of the NPI framework in Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
Running as part of NIQ’s large-scale Connected Content setup and The Full View platform, the solution blends structured product information, contextual data, and retail measurement into the whole process. With continued efforts to develop generative AI and predictive analytics, the new technology enables FMCG manufacturers to detect changing buyer trends sooner, fine tune marketing tactics, and obtain shelf presence at the same time in physical and digital retail environments.
